Working for BEST

We want all of our academies to provide an outstanding education. BEST is designed to provide services and leadership which free individual academies to concentrate on children’s development and well-being through excellent learning and teaching.

We support each academy to deliver:

  • Excellent teaching standards and methods which allow our children to learn effectively
  • A modern and vibrant curriculum which prepares our children to lead successful lives
  • Support that overcomes any barriers to learning
  • The excellent learning environments that our children deserve
  • Extra-curricular opportunities that develop our children into well-rounded individuals

We offer all our employees an excellent working environment, opportunities for development and training and a comprehensive range of staff benefits. The development of all our staff is a priority and links to the Appraisal process. Training and development opportunities are provided by a whole range of local providers, including degree and Masters programmes offered by the University of Cambridge.

I have been working across BEST schools since its infancy, and have seen the TRUST grow into a fantastic provider of education across our community. As one of the earliest MATs across Bedfordshire, schools within BEST have developed into a cohesive way of working and learning from excellent examples of practice. Personally I see this on a weekly basis and am lucky enough to be currently working transversely across two of our sites within BEST. My role enables me to share best practice across sites, but also to help our students understand the full journey. Since taking on this roll, the number of pupils transitioning across BEST have soared, and I truly believe this stems from a joined up approach of our schools working more cohesively which in turn has helped parents and students to clearly see the benefits of remaining within the TRUST.

Both Robert Bloomfield Academy and Samuel Whitbread Academy continue to be very popular choices within Central Bedfordshire and are heavily oversubscribed once again. The growth of the area will only add to the popularity, but also offers the TRUST the opportunity to create a purpose built educational profile that suits the needs and demands of this vibrant community.

Mr C Marshall, Assistant Principal - Robert Bloomfield Academy & Samuel Whitbread Academy

I’m Thomas, and I am part of the Senior Leadership at Samuel Whitbread Academy as well as having a broader role across BEST.   I am an Assistant Principal who is the SENCO at SWA with a broader leadership role in the senior team leading on staffing and recruitment.  I also work across all schools in the trust supporting and overseeing the work with all children and young people with SEND.  This makes my job very varied and enjoyable as I am working across all phases in a variety of school contexts.  I offer advice and guidance to BEST Schools and their SENCOs to ensure that all of our children can be the very BEST that they can be, supporting schools in ensuring that the highest expectations are set for all young people.  This multi-school work, as well as working in a supportive leadership team is helping to develop me professionally and has helped me to progress in my career as I gain the skills and experience required for further leadership challenges.

I live locally in this pretty part of Central Bedfordshire where we are well connected to services.  I can still enjoy village life, but find being a few minutes from Milton Keynes or less than an hour out of London makes this an ideal place to live.

 Thomas Rowell

When people ask me about my job, I tell them that every day is different, but interesting and every day I learn something new. The reason my job is all of these things and so much more is because I’m a teacher for BEST academies. I have been given opportunities and training that I would struggle to get elsewhere. I have been supported through the beginning of my teaching career by some of the leading professionals in the field.
